Grading & Communication
Due to the shorter class periods, the best way for you to contact me regarding grade concerns is via email: [email protected]
When you send me an email be specific, in the Subject line include your Name and Hour. Include a friendly salutation and then be specific with your questions. Also, remember this is an email to your teacher (your English teacher at that). Use proper English conventions in your writing and reflect strong communication skills (for example, notice that English should be capitalized). Use appropriate netiquette (if we need to talk more about this let me know).
Reading: 25%
Writing: 25%
Communication (listening/speaking): 20%
Vocabulary/Grammar: 15%
Process: 15%
As a result of the breakdown above Reading (which includes things like talking to the text and actually reading the things assigned) is critical. Read for depth not just for basic comprehension. Think when you read, make connections with the world and think about how it relates to you.
Writing well is also essential, for most at this point this means that you must work on adding specific details to your writing. Of course you can write, you have made it to sophomore year so I expect you can write, but now it is about increasing your ability to support your ideas using specific detail. There is more you must do, but based on my initial observations adding more concrete detail to your writing will increase your scores and ability to succeed in the future.
Lastly, if you do not already know how to look up your own grades online learn how, get the pin number from Mrs. Cook.
