Strengths
Based on a 40-year study of human strengths, Gallup created a language of the 34 most common talents and developed the Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment to help people discover and describe these talents.
My results:
Input:
Words, words, words... for entertainment, for communication, for information. I crave to know more, and words fill that craving.
So I get lost--in books, on the internet, and in discussions--places to explore ideas for extended periods of time where I can collect bits of information (on literally anything from cupcakes to yearbooks)
My need to know means that I need time to think, research, reflect and plan before starting most projects. I prefer to be over prepared.
When working with others, I like to ask questions and offer suggestions or ideas. I love opportunities to brainstorm and think out loud about ideas or philosophies. So I cherish conversations that make me ponder big, abstract ideas. I see myself as always learning, so I believe that education is about understanding more today than the day before.
Ideation:
I am fascinated by ideas and can find connections between seemingly disparate concepts. I approach assignments, tasks, projects, opportunities, or problems with creativity. I like to find new and different ways to do things.
I like to spend time with possibilitarians (you know, those people who like to think about possibility). I value new and intriguing ideas.
I prefer conversations where information and facts are considered objectively. I like to ask questions, evaluate answers, and figure out how things work. Deconstructing an idea leads to insight.
I always have too many windows open on my computer because I like to archive or preserve my discoveries so I can use them later or share them with others.
Intellection
I am curious and reflective. I wonder about things. I am introspective and appreciate intellectual discussions. I like to pondering things and ask probing questions.
To deal with stress, I love to escape into a good book, magazine or by searching for information online. I am also one of those people who dog-ears pages, underlines key ideas, fills a book with post-its or scribbles notes in margins so I can remember and find my discoveries later. There is nothing better than opportunities to absorb knowledge or gather ideas from forward-looking thinkers. I especially appreciate opportunities to hear authors and innovators speak so that I can feel my dendrites stretch.
I am at my best when I have invested time into mulling over ideas and possibilities. Hours of think time gives me a sense of optimism.
Adaptability
I tend to discover the things one day at a time. I am happiest when I can pause to admire details that escape the notice of others. I appreciate for what is happening at the moment and so I adjust to changing circumstances and people. I like stuff, the things in my life have the power to soothe, calm, energize, and inspire me.
I feel most balanced when I take time for creative projects or time in nature. The arts or nature itself enhances your sense of well-being.
I experience a sense of freedom when I relax and live in the moment.
Empathy
I tend to be emotionally attuned to what is going on in my own or others’ lives. I try to search for the best in people, experiences, or situations. I understand that people feel most visible or valuable when another person puts everything aside to hear what they have to say.
